At the conclusion of the investigation which you instituted in Council, concerning the Chinese who had been condemned on the charge of burglary and murder at West Cow-loon, on the night of February, you were good enough to express a wish that I would assist you in making farther inquiries about the prisoner Le A-sho, and I was happy to undertake to do so, having a strong impression on my mind that the account which he gave of himself - involving an alibi on the occasion of the burglary - was substantially correct.
